How to install the necessary drivers from DisplayLink on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS to work with a docking station on Linux

NOTE: you must disable secure boot if you have a newer laptop/desktop from the BIOS

Update your Ubuntu

Install the prerequisite file (DKMS)

Download the DisplayLink drivers

DisplayLink USB Graphics Software for Ubuntu (1.4), Oct 10, 2017
Local mirror | Vendor mirror

Extract the zip you just downloaded

Make the .run executable

Run the “run” file (haha):

Create and edit a this new conf file:

Add this to it:

Save and exit.

Reboot your computer and you’re ready to go!
